What to Pack for a Trip to Argentina

There’s a lot to remember when packing your bags for any trip, especially if you’ve never been to your destination before; it’s always a good idea to seek advice first. So, if you’re going to Argentina, or you’re thinking about it, you’re in the right place. We’ve compiled a handy list of things to remember when packing for a trip to Argentina.

Of course, Argentina is a huge country, with a very diverse climate and landscape, from humid jungles to arid deserts to luscious grassland to busy cities, so what you pack will depend on what part of the country you choose to visit. But we’ve got you covered with all the general necessities you have got to bring when you embark on your Argentine adventure.

Your packing list will vary massively depending on whether you choose to visit during summer or winter time. And if you’re coming from the northern hemisphere, don’t forget that Argentina’s seasons are reversed from those in the US, Europe and the UK!

First of all, let’s talk the summer essentials. It may seem obvious, but make sure to pack clothes for the weather. The average summer temperature in the north of Argentina is 26 degrees Celsius, and often gets much higher on the hottest days. Light, loose, clothing is a must: linen, silk, and cotton are all your friends, in light colours. To complement your summer wardrobe, make sure to get yourself a genuine Argentine polo-inspired pampeano belt. There’s no need to wait until you get out there, either: at pampeano we ship our premium handmade Argentine leather belts worldwide. Browse the website to find a style for you. For summer, maybe go for one of our brand new beach inspired Orilla belts; or perhaps the Navidad, inspired by the summery Christmases of Argentina? Aside from clothes, there are other essentials you can’t forget for summer. Sunglasses and sun cream are definitely required for those long sunny days. Swimming costumes, to make the most of the beautiful beaches, or to just relax by the pool. And don’t forget some nice airy footwear, whether sliders, breathable trainers or alpargatas!

In the winter, your bag contents will look very different. While the summers are hot in Argentina, the winters can get very cold – with the average in the very south at only 4 degrees – so make sure to pack accordingly. Plenty of thermals, jackets, gloves, hats, and scarves are absolutely necessary. To complete the look, why not get yourself a genuine Argentine polo-inspired pampeano belt to suit the wintery vibes? The Roca is inspired by the snowy peaks of the Andes mountain range, so is great for the winter. Or any of our blue, cooler belts, like the Azules or the Cincha, would also look the part. Don’t forget the sun glasses and sun cream as well – even though it gets dark earlier, it doesn’t take long to get burned, especially when there’s cloud cover and it’s easy to forget that the sun is still up there. Especially if you’re planning on being outdoors a lot, whether hiking, skiing, or seeing the sights, don’t forget to apply plenty of sun cream.

There are lots of things that you’ll need whether you’re travelling in summer or winter. For example, you’ll need a handy bag to carry around your day to day essentials: we have a range of Argentine leather bags to choose from in many different styles, from crossbody to satchel style and beyond. You’ll definitely need at least one nice outfit to partake in a bit of tango, which is done all throughout the year. Did we mention our pampeano belts look great with a suit for tango? And of course, there are a great many essentials you’ll need on any trip. Here’s a few to make sure to remember: your passport; any travel visas you may need; cash (it’s always fun exchanging to Argentine pesos, as one pound is equivalent to around one thousand pesos, so you always feel like a millionaire!); toiletries (why not get one of our Argentine made leather washbags to keep them in); charging adaptor (there are two types of plug commonly used in Argentina, C and I, so make sure to get both, or a universal adaptor); camera to capture the sights; and some entertainment, be it a tablet, a couple of books, some headphones for music, or all three.

And of course, there’s one thing we’re forgetting: what you’re packing all of your things into! You’ll need a sturdy and reliable piece of luggage, that looks the part and will be easy to spot luggage claim. Well, we’ve got you covered: we have a range of genuine handmade Argentine travel bags that will see you through your holiday, whether in summer or winter. They are made in Argentina, and would love for you to take them home.
